North Shore Pool House

Designed and built in March 2025, this North Shore, Illinois pool house was created to feel like a true extension of the main home. I was responsible for the full scope of the project, including creating the plans, designing the interiors, and managing construction from start to finish. The client wanted a bright, neutral space with plenty of natural light that could be used for both relaxing and entertaining.

Mood Board and Floor Plan

The mood board and layout focused heavily on natural light and indoor/outdoor flow. Large windows and a glass bifold entrance allow light to flood the space and fully open the pool house to the exterior. The floor plan was intentionally divided to support both entertaining and relaxing, with the bar area located on one side and a comfortable lounge space on the other. Ample storage is tucked discreetly along the back of the house to keep the space feeling clean and uncluttered. We also included an exterior shower on the side that adds function and convenience for pool use.

Furniture and Finishes

The furniture and finishes were selected to create a relaxed, neutral backdrop that feels calm and intentional without distracting from the natural light. Soft, layered tones were used throughout to keep the space feeling serene and timeless. Taj Mahal marble and fluted white oak were incorporated at the bar to add warmth, texture, and visual interest. The plaster walls throughout the pool house bring softness and depth to the space. Soft, comfortable seating upholstered in waterproof materials were chosen for the lounge area for durability with an inviting, relaxed feel ideal for poolside living.

Custom Bar

The custom bar was a key feature of the pool house. I developed the bar layout, selected the materials, and detailed plans and 3D models in SketchUp to clearly communicate the vision. I worked closely with the millworker throughout the process, reviewing shop drawings to refine details and ensure everything aligned with the design intent. Coordination with the stone fabricator was especially important to execute the stone waterfall feature, which became the focal point of the bar. Through close collaboration and hands on involvement, the final result reflects the original concept while being thoughtfully crafted.
